Question: how did life begin?

We don’t know exactly how life on Earth came about. The Earth is 4.5 billion years old (450,000,000 years!) and the earliest life was about 3.8 billion years ago, so no one was there to make a note of how life actually began!

The main theory is that life developed from molecules that could copy themselves, like an important molecule called DNA does. These molecules could have been produced by the conditions on Earth at the time or controversially could have come from somewhere else, such as another planet, or further out in space!
