It would help because we need lots of power in of our lives, but we don’t want any downsides.

It doesn’t produce smog and air pollution like burning coal does, or greenhouse gases like burning fossil fuels do. It does not produce long-live radioactive waste like a Nuclear Fission Power station does, and a Fusion power plant cannot suffer a meltdown. Renewables like solar power and wind power are nice, but they can’t be turned off and on when you need them, they only work when the shin is shining or the wind is blowing. A Fusion power plant can run at any time of day, whatever the weather.
